You Need a School Improvement Partner (Or You Need to BE One)
My wife is an amazing listener, and she is a school improvement partner. Heads just want to talk to her. The first hour of a school visit - well, usually no work gets done. Often there are tears.
But, of course, this is the work. Who do heads have to turn to, who will understand, who won’t judge them, who will offer solutions when asked?
I’m also a school improvement partner. Head teachers don’t cry when I arrive, because I’m a man, and men always want to offer solutions, right?
This is by way of saying, you too can be a school improvement partner. Your personality will be perfect - whatever it is.
But how can you learn to actually improve a school? How can you make sure you aren’t just passing on your personal preferences? How can you learn to listen and understand the context of every school you visit?
Like this.
You can be trained by brilliant SIPs, in the company of other heads, executive heads, directors of education - people who battle the odds every day and keep learning to triumph over imposter syndrome.
The first school you’ll improve is your own. Then you’ll visit each other’s, and be mentored and coached in how to make, not just a difference, but the right difference.
(Our first course sold out 4 years ago, and most still meet up to the termly support networks every year since. The very best of them stay over the night before - wine, laughter, meals and music, and mutual support - you know who you are!)
If you are curious to see if becoming a school improvement partner will suit you, there are 9 days of great training and unbelievable value.
